Florianópolis is the city many ViaNexa clients end up calling home. A first weekend here is a good way to get to know it.
The island
Most of Florianópolis sits on Santa Catarina Island, known for its many beaches, lagoons and green hills. It is large enough that each area has its own character: some parts are lively and busy, others are quiet and surrounded by nature.
The Hercílio Luz bridge, which links the island to the mainland, is one of the city's best-known landmarks and a good sign that you have arrived.
A first weekend
You do not need a long list. A few places give you a real sense of the island:
- The historic centre and the Mercado Público. The old market is a classic stop for local food, coffee and conversation, and a window into everyday island life.
- Lagoa da Conceição. A lagoon neighbourhood with a relaxed mood, restaurants and views over the water.
- A beach. With so many to choose from, simply pick one close to where you are staying and enjoy the sea.
Walk, sit down for a coffee and let the place show itself to you.
Why it matters
Getting to know your new home makes settling in easier. When streets, smells and views start to feel familiar, the practical side of moving feels lighter too. A weekend of exploring is a small investment in feeling at home, and the island makes it easy.
